Guide flies are some of my favorites. Simple, quick and effective patterns that don't break the bank on time and money. The Laser Muddler is just that, a guide style fly that just plain catches fish and doesn't require lots of time at the bench.
When coming up with this pattern, it was imperative that it held some of the characteristics of the original design; the broad head, two tone color scheme from the turkey and a lighter underbody. What I was looking for was something familiar but different, and essentially a smaller streamer I could use primarily on some of my brook trout streams. What I found was a great quick tie that not only worked in that particular venue, but on my larger rivers for bigger browns and rainbows, but also on many stillwaters for a variety of warm water species.
